Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment for Pirkanmaa

The Centres for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment (ELY Centres) are responsible for the regional implementation and development tasks of the central government in Finland. A total of 15 ELY Centres promote the development of a good living environment and community structure while supporting citizens’ well-being and the competitiveness of trade and industry in their respective regions. 

The Centres for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment come under the administrative branch of the Ministry of Employment and the Economy. The ELY Centres also deal with tasks coming under the administrative branches of the Ministry of the Environment, Ministry of Transport and Communications, Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Ministry of Education and Culture and Ministry of the Interior. Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment for Pirkanmaa is a regional authority and has three areas of responsibility:

• Business and industry, the labour force, competence, and cultural activities
• Transport and infrastructure
• The environment and natural resources

Role in COMBINE:

Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment for Pirkanmaa is the Work package leader of WP4 "Capacity building for sustainable last mile transport" as well as Group of activities leader in GoA 4.2. “Test-field development for platooning on Helsinki-Tampere highway” and GoA 5.3. “Dialogue with national politicians and European Commission”. Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment for Pirkanmaa is also responsible for COMBINE’s communication and has nominated a COMBINE Communication Manager, who communicates the project’s aims and outcomes.
