The first semi-trailer transport by freight train in the Baltic States took place last week, when on the 14th of May, the train with 22 semi-trailers arrived in the Šeštokai railway station in Lithuania from the Central Europe. The two-day-pilot transportation of semi-trailers was initiated and supervised by the Lithuanian Railways freight company LG Cargo together with its partners, the intermodal transport operator CargoBeamer AG and PKP CARGO S.A, one of the largest railway freight companies in Poland.

International Union for Road-Rail Combined Transport (UIRR), the COMBINE partner organization from Belgium, has today published a new video in order to present different types of cargos in Combined Transport.

Intermodal freight transport is particularly important in crisis situations such as the current Corona pandemic and is particularly effective in supplying people and companies with goods. As a result of the crisis meeting “CT terminals of the SGKV” which was held on the 17th of March, COMBINE partner organisation German Promotion Centre for Intermodal Transport (SGKV) published recommendations to politics and authorities and a guideline for terminal operators on how to deal with the current Corona crisis.

In context of the current Corona pandemic, COMBINE partner organization UIRR has published a new video on Combined Transport in partnership with COMBINE project.

The third all-partner meeting for COMBINE project took place last week in Helsinki. In addition to the actual partner meeting, a site visit was organized to Vuosaari Harbour, which serves container and RoRo traffic and has frequent liner traffic to main ports in Europe.

COMBINE partner SGKV welcomed more than 110 top-class participants active in the field of Combined Transport (CT) from practice, politics and research in Berlin to the fifth annual “Terminal Tag” titled “CT.System.Thinking”. The event was initially launched in 2015 to establish a platform for exchange between different players in combined transport, offering opportunities to expand networks for future-oriented cooperation.
